Ford Fuels started life as G H Ford & Sons shortly before the Second World War. George Ford borrowed £25 to invest in a horse and cart to begin supplying milk and coal to the villages surrounding Timsbury, near Bath. Following the war and with the help of sons Jack and Alan, the business grew in size and specialised in bringing coal to the West Country from Wales and the Midlands using 12 tipper trucks until the late 1960’s. At the turn of the decade Jack and Alan started seeing the future of GH Ford & Son’s in oil, and in 1971 they invested in their first fuel tanker and started supply homes and farms in the Bath area.

Over the next 15 years the business continued to grow steadily and saw the introduction of the third generation as Adrian, Michael and Richard joined the family business. By the 1990’s it was clear that the depot in Timsbury had outgrown and the business required larger premises which was eventually found at nearby Farrington Gurney. It was decided to move the whole operation to Farrington which still serves as the businesses head office today. The next 10 years served as a growth period for the Business as new fuel depots were opened in Stalbridge (Dorset) and Membury (Berkshire) as well as taking on 2 truck stops in Frome and Bridgwater. Not only did the business expand geographically, but we also started supplying lubricants, Nationwide Fuel cards, as well as providing heating engineering services allowing the business to diversify into new markets.

With the 4th generation of the Ford family (John, Ryan, Teelah and David) coming into the business in recent years, we still follow the same family driven traditions of the past while also steering our company (and therefore the industry) into a renewable and sustainable future.

As Ford Fuels moved into the second decade of the 21st century Richard and John were keen to expand the business once more which led to the Company opening a new depot in Bow, near Crediton, and expanding the fuels and lubricants delivery area to include the county of Devon.

This expansion was followed in 2013 when Ford Fuels made its first major acquisition in acquiring the fuel division of Countrywide Farmers PLC, adding a further 4 delivery depots and expanding the delivery area into Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Powys, Buckinghamshire and the South Midlands. In recent years Ford Fuels have also acquired Hobbs Bros Ltd, a family fuel business based in Gloucester, GLB Ltd, a heating services company based in Evesham, and the west country Fuel business from Thomas Silvey Ltd., creating a one stop shop for all consumers

Ford Fuels today is a far different business to what George Ford started all those years ago, although the company does maintain the drive and customer focused vision instilled in the business through the generations.

Today Ford Fuels employs over 180 people and operates 100+ vehicles delivering over 300 million litres of product per year alongside our exceptional engineering department (including boiler and tank servicing and installations).
